ABOUT VWE

About Virginia Wine Experiences

A community guide to Loudoun wine country — hand-picked places, a weekly events calendar, and help planning your visit.

Founded in Purcellville

Allison and Stan established Virginia Wine Experiences in 2022, the year they bought a cottage near the W&OD trailhead in historic Purcellville. Their wine studies and wine travels — Napa, Sonoma, Finger Lakes, Bordeaux, Rioja, Douro, Porto, Piedmont, Tuscany, and Umbria — combined with their knowledge and love of the northern Virginia area come together to keep Virginia Wine Experiences an always evolving resource for both locals and visitors to the region. Allison is WSET Level 3 and a Certified Specialist of Wine; Stan is WSET Level 2, with a particular interest in the area's breweries and their IPAs.

Our Opinions Are Only Our Opinions

We don't score wines or wineries. We believe tasting is a personal journey, and half the pleasure is finding out what you like. Virginia wine rewards that curiosity: every vintage brings a new expression of the grape, and its winemakers are forever experimenting with new varieties, new blends, new ideas. New wineries continue to open and existing wineries continue to evolve. We are sharing some of our favorites with you here, but please don’t interpret our omission of a winery as anything other than the fact that it hasn’t made it to our favorites list yet.

THE VWE APPROACH
